Semi-Intensive Schedule (Rebreed at 2 Weeks)
3
Rebreed the doe 10-14 days after kindling. This schedule targets 6-8 litters per year by overlapping pregnancy with lactation. Kits are weaned earlier, at 4-5 weeks, to reduce the combined energy burden on the doe.
Why It Works
Does are fertile within days of kindling, so a 10-14 day window reliably catches the next ovulation cycle while still giving a short recovery buffer. The compressed timeline increases annual output without pushing the doe into immediate post-partum rebreeding.
Tips
- Provide 18-20% protein pellets and unlimited hay to meet the high energy demands of simultaneous pregnancy and lactation
- Monitor doe weight weekly; a loss exceeding 10-15% of pre-kindling weight signals the schedule is too demanding
- Wean kits at 4-5 weeks and transition them to solid feed gradually over 3-4 days to prevent digestive upset
