Consider Kinder Goats
4
Explore Kinder goats — a cross between Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian breeds — for a dual-purpose miniature option with solid milk output. Kinders weigh 115-150 lbs and stand 20-26 inches tall, making them larger than Nigerian Dwarfs but still manageable for backyard settings.
Why It Works
Kinders combine the high butterfat content of Nigerian Dwarfs with the greater milk volume and meatier build of Nubians. They produce 3-6 lbs of milk per day with butterfat averaging 5-7%, and their lactation periods tend to run longer than purebred miniatures. The Kinder Goat Breeders Association has registered the breed since 1988.
Tips
- Source from KGBA-registered breeders to ensure breed standards
- Plan for slightly more feed and space than Nigerian Dwarfs due to their larger frame
- Consider Kinders if you want both dairy and meat from a single breed
