Secure hive components

5

Strap all hive components tightly together before any move to prevent shifting, collapse, or bee escapes during transport. Use ratchet straps or hive staples to bind brood boxes, supers, lids, and bottom boards into a single rigid unit.

Why It Works

Hive bodies are stacked without permanent fastening, so road vibration and tilting during transport can separate them. Securing everything into one unit maintains structural integrity, protects comb from damage, and keeps bees contained throughout the journey.

Tips

  • Use at least two ratchet straps per hive, one near the top and one near the bottom
  • Hive staples or frame staples add extra security for individual frames inside the boxes
  • Check strap tension after loading onto the vehicle and before departure
  • For long-distance moves, add a piece of plywood under the bottom board for rigidity
