Nosema control
3
Nosema disease, caused by microsporidian fungi, can also contribute to drone brood die-off. Nosema primarily affects adult bees' digestive systems, but it can also impact brood health, including drone brood. Nosema infection can weaken larvae and pupae, leading to mortality. If drone brood die-off is persistent and accompanied by other Nosema symptoms in adult bees (e.g., dysentery, reduced foraging), Nosema treatment should be considered. Fumagillin-B is a common treatment for Nosema, administered in sugar syrup. Nosema control contributes to overall colony health and brood viability, including drone brood.
