Grow plants in portable containers so you can physically move them to follow the sun throughout the day or season. Place pots on patios, decks, or wheeled plant caddies and reposition them to capture the best available light. Even if no single spot receives full sun all day, rotating containers between morning and afternoon sun patches can give plants the cumulative hours they need.

Why It Works

Fixed garden beds are locked into whatever light they receive. Containers break that constraint, letting you chase sunlight across your property. A plant that needs 6 hours of sun can get 3 hours on the east side in the morning and 3 hours on the west side in the afternoon.

• Use wheeled caddies for heavy pots to make moving them practical
• Choose lightweight potting mix rather than garden soil for easier handling
