Use shower steam or a damp cloth in the dryer
4
Steam relaxes fabric fibers and releases wrinkles without direct contact. You can generate steam using your bathroom shower or a clothes dryer with a damp item, both using things you already have at home.
Steps
- Shower steam method: Hang the wrinkled garment in the bathroom away from direct water spray. Close the door and run a hot shower for 10-15 minutes. Smooth the fabric by hand afterward.
- Dryer method: Place the wrinkled item in the dryer with a damp washcloth or 2-3 ice cubes. Run on medium-high heat for 10-15 minutes. Remove promptly.
Why It Works
Hot water vapor penetrates fabric fibers and breaks the hydrogen bonds that hold creases in place. As the garment cools, fibers reset in a smoother configuration.
Tips
- The dryer method works best with just one or two garments at a time
- Remove clothes immediately when the cycle ends — leaving them bunched up creates new wrinkles
- The shower method works best for lighter fabrics like cotton, linen, and blends
