Use a hair dryer or flat iron with caution

3

A hair dryer or hair straightener can substitute for a clothing iron in a pinch. The hair dryer is safe for most fabrics, while the flat iron works on small areas but carries a real scorching risk.

Steps

  1. Hair dryer method: Hang the garment or lay it flat. Lightly mist wrinkled areas with water from a spray bottle, then hold a hair dryer on medium heat 3-4 inches away. Direct airflow over wrinkles while smoothing fabric with your other hand. Most wrinkles release in 2-3 minutes per section.
  2. Flat iron (small areas only): Ensure plates are clean and free of hair product residue. Set to the lowest heat setting (under 300°F / 150°C). Quickly pass over collars, cuffs, or hems. Never leave the iron in one spot — fabric can scorch in 2-3 seconds.

Tips

  • The hair dryer method is safe for virtually all fabrics including silk and synthetics
  • Only use a flat iron on cotton or polyester — never on silk, rayon, or delicate materials
  • Test on an inconspicuous area first when using the flat iron
  • A damp pressing cloth between the flat iron and fabric adds extra protection
