Spray commercial glass cleaner and wipe with newspaper or coffee filters

Spray a commercial glass cleaner (such as Windex, Sprayway, or Invisible Glass) onto the window and wipe with crumpled black-and-white newspaper or paper coffee filters for a lint-free, streak-free finish.

Steps

1. Spray the cleaner evenly across the glass surface. Work out of direct sunlight to prevent premature drying.
2. Wipe the glass using crumpled black-and-white newspaper pages or a clean paper coffee filter.
3. Buff dry with a fresh section of newspaper or a new coffee filter.

Why It Works

Newspaper fibers are denser and shorter than paper towel fibers, so they do not shed lint onto the glass. Coffee filters are similarly lint-free by design. Commercial glass cleaners contain surfactants and solvents (like isopropanol) that dissolve grease and evaporate quickly without residue.

Tips

• Use only black-and-white newsprint — glossy inserts and color pages leave ink smudges
• Sprayway (foam) is a professional-favorite brand because the foam clings to vertical glass instead of dripping
• Coffee filters work especially well on mirrors and small panes
