Apply a drop of oil to the knot and work it loose with pins
3
Place a tiny drop of baby oil or olive oil onto the knot to lubricate the links, then use two fine needles or pins to gently tease the loosened knot apart. Clean the chain afterward to remove oil residue.
Steps
- Lay the necklace flat on a clean surface.
- Apply a small drop of baby oil or olive oil directly onto the knot using a cotton swab.
- Let the oil soak in for 1-2 minutes so it penetrates between the links.
- Insert two needles or pins into the center of the knot and gently work them apart.
- Once untangled, clean the chain with mild soap and warm water, then dry with a soft cloth.
Tips
- Baby oil works best because it is lightweight and spreads easily into tight knots
- Avoid using oil on porous gemstones like pearls, turquoise, or opals — the oil can stain them
- Always clean the chain thoroughly after untangling to prevent residue from attracting dirt
