Dust with baby powder and work loose with pins
5
Sprinkle baby powder or cornstarch directly onto the knot to reduce friction between the chain links, then use two fine needles or straight pins to gently tease the knot apart.
Steps
- Lay the necklace flat on a clean, well-lit surface and unclasp it if possible.
- Sprinkle a small amount of baby powder or cornstarch directly onto the knot to lubricate the links.
- Insert the tips of two fine needles or straight pins into the center of the knot.
- Gently wiggle and pull the pins apart, working slowly to loosen the tightest sections first.
- Once the knot opens up, use your fingers or the pins to unravel the chain completely.
- Wipe the necklace with a soft cloth to remove powder residue.
Tips
- Work on a dark surface so you can see fine chain links clearly
- Avoid pulling the chain ends, which tightens the knot further
- Talcum powder works too, but cornstarch is a safer alternative for sensitive skin
