Description
Reducing power draw from components like the screen and radios, and limiting background activity, significantly extends battery runtime.
Recipe/Instructions
- Screen Brightness: Lower the screen brightness to the lowest comfortable level. The display is often the biggest power drain.
- Turn Off Radios: Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when you don't need an internet connection or wireless peripherals.
- Close Unused Apps: Close programs and browser tabs you are not actively using. Check the system tray/task manager for unnecessary background processes and disable or close them.
- Power Saver Mode: Activate your operating system's built-in 'Battery Saver', 'Power Saver', or 'Eco' mode. This automatically adjusts settings for efficiency.
- Keyboard Backlight: Turn off keyboard backlighting if your laptop has it and you don't need it.
- Disconnect Peripherals: Unplug external devices like USB drives or mice when not in use, as they draw power.
- Avoid Extreme Temps: Don't use or charge the laptop in very hot or cold environments, as this can strain the battery.
- Battery Health: If the battery is several years old and drains very quickly, consider replacing it.
