Re-glue loose wood joints with wood glue
5
Disassemble the loose joint if possible, scrape out old dried glue, apply fresh wood glue to both surfaces, reassemble, and clamp tightly for 24 hours. For joints that won't come apart, inject glue into the gap with a syringe.
Why It Works
Most wobbly wooden furniture has joints where the original glue has dried out and cracked. Fresh PVA wood glue (like Titebond) creates a bond stronger than the wood itself when the joint is clamped tightly during curing.
Tips
- Clean out all old glue first — new glue won't bond to dried old glue
- Use ratchet straps or a band clamp for chairs where bar clamps won't fit
- Wrap loose dowels with thread soaked in glue before reinserting — this fills the gap in worn sockets
- Wipe away squeeze-out immediately with a damp cloth — dried glue won't accept stain or finish
