Mount a pegboard wall system
5
Mount pegboard sheets on wall studs with 3/4-inch furring strips behind them to create space for hooks. Hang tools using an assortment of hooks, holders, and small baskets. Outline each tool's position on the board with a marker so everything goes back in its place.
Why It Works
Pegboard puts every tool in plain sight and within arm's reach. The grid of holes accepts dozens of hook configurations, making it endlessly customizable as your tool collection changes.
Tips
- Mount at comfortable working height with frequently used tools at eye level
- Outline each tool — this "shadow board" approach makes missing tools obvious at a glance
- Metal pegboard is more durable than hardboard but costs 3-4x more
- Attach hooks with zip ties or pegboard locks so they don't pull out when you grab a tool
