Avoid Feeding Bread and Processed Foods

Never feed ducks bread, crackers, chips, popcorn, or other processed human foods. These items are nutritionally empty for waterfowl and cause real harm over time.

Why It Works

High-carbohydrate, low-nutrient foods fill ducks up without providing the protein, niacin, and vitamins they need. Regular bread consumption is linked to Angel Wing, a permanent wing deformity caused by rapid growth on poor nutrition. Obesity, malnutrition, and increased susceptibility to disease also result. Moldy bread contains aspergillus fungi that can cause fatal respiratory infections in ducks.

Tips

• Post signage near your duck area to inform visitors not to feed bread.
• Redirect well-meaning neighbors toward safe alternatives like peas or chopped lettuce.
• Remove any discarded bread or junk food from the enclosure immediately.
