Provide a Safe Heat Source
5
Solution
Use a heat lamp or heat plate designed for poultry, maintaining the correct temperature.
Explanation
Ducklings cannot regulate their body temperature initially. Start the brooder temperature around 90-95°F (32-35°C) for the first week, decreasing by about 5°F (3°C) each week until ambient temperature is reached. Position the heat source so ducklings can move away if too warm.
Notes
Heat plates are generally safer than heat lamps (less fire risk). Monitor duckling behavior: huddled together means too cold, spread far from heat means too hot.
