Sticking Windows

Windows that stick or refuse to open smoothly are a common household issue, particularly in older homes with wood frames. The most frequent causes are paint buildup sealing the sash to the frame, wood swelling from seasonal humidity changes, dirt and debris in the tracks, loose or misaligned hardware, and general wear over time. The problem tends to worsen during humid summer months and may improve in drier winter conditions. Addressing sticking windows promptly prevents further damage to the frame, glass, and hardware.
