Rinse sinuses with saline using a neti pot or squeeze bottle

5

Steps

  1. Use only distilled, sterile, or previously boiled (then cooled) water — never tap water
  2. Mix 1/2 teaspoon non-iodized salt and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda per 8 oz of water
  3. Lean over the sink, tilt head sideways, and pour solution into the upper nostril
  4. Let it drain from the lower nostril, then repeat on the other side

Why It Works

Saline irrigation physically flushes pollen, mucus, and inflammatory mediators out of the nasal passages. A 2025 review in Medicina confirmed it is an effective, safe, low-cost strategy that also enhances the efficacy of nasal corticosteroid sprays.

Tips

  • Use before applying nasal corticosteroid spray so the medication reaches clean tissue
  • Clean and dry the device after every use to prevent mold/bacteria
  • NeilMed Sinus Rinse squeeze bottles are easier for beginners than traditional neti pots
