Switch from contacts to glasses during peak pollen days

4

What to Do

Wear glasses instead of contact lenses on high-pollen days, or switch to daily disposable contacts that you discard each evening.

Why It Works

Contact lenses trap pollen on their surface and hold it against the eye all day, prolonging allergen exposure. Pollen proteins bind to the lens material and are difficult to remove even with cleaning solutions. Daily disposables eliminate overnight pollen accumulation.

Tips

  • If you must wear contacts, use daily disposables during allergy season
  • Apply allergy eye drops at least 10 minutes before inserting lenses
  • Never sleep in contacts during allergy season
  • Clean reusable lenses with hydrogen peroxide-based systems (more thorough than multipurpose solutions)
