Treat localized drywood infestations with spot treatment

3

What to Do

For small, accessible drywood termite infestations limited to a single area of wood, a pest control professional can apply localized treatment — injecting termiticide directly into the infested wood through drilled holes, or using heat or microwave treatment on the affected area.

Why It Works

Drywood termites live entirely inside the wood they consume (no soil contact needed). When the infestation is caught early and confined to a small area, spot treatment can eliminate it without the cost and disruption of whole-structure fumigation. This is significantly cheaper and less invasive.

Tips

  • Cost: $200-1,000 per area vs $1,200-2,500+ for whole-house fumigation
  • Only viable when the infestation is localized and accessible — if drywood termites have spread to multiple areas, fumigation may be necessary
  • Drywood termites produce distinctive hexagonal fecal pellets pushed out of small holes — this helps identify infested areas
  • Found primarily in southern coastal states
