Provide enrichment and space
3
Give geese adequate space and environmental stimulation to reduce stress-related vocalization. Provide a minimum of 40 square feet per bird in the enclosure, access to a water source deep enough for bathing (at least 15 cm), and a varied foraging area with grass and leafy greens.
Why It Works
Bored or overcrowded geese vocalize more frequently as a stress response. When geese can forage, bathe, and explore, they spend their energy on natural behaviors instead of calling. A well-enriched environment keeps the flock occupied and calm throughout the day.
Tips
- Rotate grazing areas weekly to maintain fresh forage and prevent bare patches
- Add a shallow kiddie pool or pond if natural water access is unavailable
- Scatter treats like chopped lettuce or peas across the foraging area to encourage active searching
