Address Angel Wing deformity
4
Check goslings from 2-8 weeks of age for wing tips that angle outward instead of lying flat against the body. If caught early, wrap the affected wing in its natural position using vet wrap for 3-5 days while switching the diet to lower-protein feed (under 16%) and increasing access to grass and forage. Recheck after unwrapping and repeat if needed.
Why It Works
Angel Wing occurs when rapid growth from high-protein or high-calorie diets causes the flight feathers to grow faster than the wing structure can support, twisting the last joint outward. Corrective wrapping and diet adjustment during the growth phase allow the joint to set properly. In adult geese, the condition is permanent.
Tips
- Keep starter feed protein at 18-20% for the first 3 weeks, then drop to 14-16%
- Supplement with fresh grass, lettuce, or other greens from week 3 onward
- Avoid feeding bread, corn, or other high-calorie treats to growing goslings
