Assign static IP addresses to critical devices

In your router settings, assign fixed (static) IP addresses to devices that frequently go offline. This prevents the router from reassigning addresses during DHCP lease renewals, which can cause devices to temporarily lose connection.

Why It Works

When a router reassigns IP addresses, smart devices may lose their connection until they detect the change and reconnect. Static IPs ensure the address never changes, eliminating this source of intermittent disconnection.

Tips

• Prioritize static IPs for hubs (Hue Bridge, SmartThings), cameras, and thermostats
• Access your router's admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1) and look for DHCP reservation or static IP settings
• Assign IPs outside the DHCP range (e.g., 192.168.1.200-250) to avoid conflicts
• This is a more advanced fix — try restarting and Wi-Fi improvements first
