Add room sensors for balanced whole-home comfort

4

Place wireless temperature sensors in the rooms you use most. Ecobee SmartSensors ($40 each, one included) and Nest Temperature Sensors ($25-40) report each room's temperature to the thermostat, which adjusts to prioritize comfort where you actually are.

Why It Works

Most thermostats are in hallways where nobody spends time. Room sensors let the thermostat target the bedroom at night and the living room during the day, solving the "one room is too hot while another is too cold" problem.

Tips

  • Start with sensors in the bedroom and the most-used living space
  • Ecobee sensors also detect occupancy and can switch priority rooms automatically
  • Place sensors at chest height, away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources
  • Most households need 2-3 sensors for effective coverage
