Turkey Grower Feed (8-16 Weeks)

5

Transition turkeys to a 20-22% protein grower feed at 8 weeks and continue through 16 weeks. Mix grower feed with starter gradually over 5-7 days, increasing the grower ratio daily to avoid digestive upset. This phase covers the period of heaviest feed consumption as birds build frame and muscle.

Why It Works

After 8 weeks, turkeys' protein needs decrease as feather and skeletal growth slows relative to muscle development. Grower feed adjusts the protein-to-energy ratio to support steady weight gain of 1-2 pounds per week without excess protein that would be excreted as uric acid.

Tips

  • Broad-breasted breeds consume roughly 2-3 pounds of grower feed per bird per day by 12 weeks
  • Keep feeders at bird back height to reduce waste and contamination
  • Monitor body condition weekly; birds should feel muscular, not bony or overly fat
