Rabbit Tractor Space
3
Size rabbit tractors to provide at least 1.5-2 sq ft per growing rabbit inside the frame. A standard 4' x 8' tractor (32 sq ft) can house 6-10 fryers when moved to fresh ground daily. Move the tractor at least once per day to give rabbits access to clean pasture and prevent ground contamination.
Why It Works
Tractors combine the benefits of fresh forage and ground contact with predator protection. Daily moves ensure rabbits always have clean grass, reducing parasite load and ammonia buildup. The per-rabbit space inside the tractor remains comparable to grow-out cage standards, so the animals are not overcrowded.
Tips
- Build the frame from lightweight materials (PVC, aluminum) so one person can move it easily
- Attach handles or wheels on one end for easier repositioning
- Provide shade cover over at least half the tractor to prevent heat stress
