Provide unlimited access to quality grass hay every day. Timothy, orchard grass, and brome hay are all suitable options. Hay should constitute the largest portion of a rabbit's diet by volume, available around the clock.

Why It Works

Long-strand fiber from grass hay is essential for gut motility, preventing GI stasis, and wearing down continuously growing teeth. Rabbits that eat adequate hay have significantly lower rates of dental disease and digestive blockages.

Tips

• Use alfalfa hay only for growing kits under 6 months or lactating does, as its higher calcium and protein can cause kidney issues in adult rabbits
• Place hay in a rack above floor level to keep it clean and reduce waste
• Fresh hay should smell sweet and appear green; avoid dusty, brown, or moldy bales
