Standard Schedule (Rebreed at 4-6 Weeks)

5

Rebreed the doe when her current litter reaches 4 to 6 weeks old. This produces approximately 4-5 litters per year and is the most common schedule for backyard rabbit operations. Kits are weaned at 6-8 weeks, typically shortly after the doe is rebred.

Why It Works

The 4-6 week interval gives the doe time to recover from kindling and meet peak lactation demands (weeks 2-3) before the energy cost of a new pregnancy begins. This balance between production and recovery keeps does in good body condition across multiple breeding cycles.

Tips

  • Wean kits at 6-8 weeks to reduce nursing strain before the next litter arrives
  • Track breeding dates, kindling dates, and litter sizes in a log to spot declining performance early
  • Body-score the doe at rebreeding; delay if she feels bony over the spine or hips
