Implement Rotational Grazing
4
Divide pasture into 3-4 smaller paddocks using permanent or temporary electric fencing, and rotate goats to a fresh section every 7-14 days depending on forage regrowth and stocking density.
Why It Works
Rotational grazing prevents overgrazing by giving each paddock a rest period of 3-6 weeks to regrow. It also disrupts internal parasite life cycles: larvae shed in manure need 5-10 days to become infective, so moving goats before that window significantly reduces worm burdens without chemical dewormers.
Tips
- Use portable electric netting for flexible, low-cost cross-fencing between paddocks
- Rotate faster during wet seasons when parasite larvae develop more quickly
- Mow or clip paddocks after grazing to promote even regrowth and reduce parasite habitat
