Propolis traps
4
Propolis traps are specialized hive components designed to encourage bees to deposit propolis in easily removable structures. These traps typically consist of plastic grids or screens with small gaps that mimic natural hive crevices. When placed within the hive, usually on top bars or between hive bodies, bees instinctively fill these gaps with propolis. Once the trap is sufficiently filled, it can be removed and chilled, making the propolis brittle and easy to extract by flexing or scraping the trap. Commercial propolis traps are readily available in various designs and are a popular method for beekeepers to increase propolis harvest without significantly disturbing the colony.
