Warm honey frames before extraction
3
Warming honey frames slightly before extraction reduces honey viscosity and significantly improves extraction efficiency. Cold honey is more viscous and extracts slowly and incompletely. Warming frames to around 90-100°F (32-38°C) lowers honey viscosity, making it flow more readily from combs during extraction. Frames can be warmed in a warm room, a warming cabinet, or a dedicated honey warming box. Warming frames speeds up extraction, increases honey yield, and reduces extractor workload. Temperature control is important to avoid overheating and damaging honey quality. A warm room or warming cabinet can be DIY or commercially acquired.
