Melt wax off hard surfaces with a hair dryer

3

Re-melt spilled candle wax on hard, non-porous surfaces using a hair dryer's warm air, then wipe it away before it re-hardens. This works well on tile, countertops, glass, and finished wood where scraping risks scratches.

Steps

  1. Set a hair dryer to low or medium heat. Hold it 4-6 inches from the wax spill.
  2. Move the warm air steadily across the wax, keeping the dryer in motion to avoid overheating any one spot.
  3. As the wax softens and turns glossy, immediately wipe it up with a paper towel or soft cloth.
  4. Repeat heating and wiping in small sections until all wax is removed.
  5. Clean any remaining oily residue with warm soapy water or an all-purpose surface cleaner.

Tips

  • Avoid high heat on lacquered or varnished wood, which can blister the finish
  • Work in small areas so the wax does not re-solidify before you can wipe it
  • For thick wax deposits, scrape off the bulk first with a plastic card before applying heat
