Buff clean leather briskly with a soft cloth
2
Remove surface dust and rub clean leather vigorously with a soft cloth to restore its natural low-level shine. This is the simplest method and works best on well-maintained smooth leather that already has residual oils and wax from prior conditioning.
Steps
- Wipe the shoe with a lightly damp cloth to remove dust and dirt, then let it dry completely.
- Wrap a clean microfiber cloth, flannel, or old cotton t-shirt tightly around two fingers.
- Rub the leather briskly in small circular motions, applying moderate pressure for 30-60 seconds per section.
- Finish with quick back-and-forth strokes to even out the sheen.
Tips
- Microfiber cloths produce the best results because their fine fibers polish without scratching
- Works best on calf and cowhide leather; suede and nubuck should never be buffed this way
- Breathe warm air onto the leather just before buffing to slightly soften surface wax and improve shine
