Apply shaving cream or soap film to the mirror
4
Rub a thin layer of shaving cream or bar soap onto your clean, dry mirror, then buff it clear with a soft cloth. The invisible surfactant film left behind prevents water droplets from beading up into fog.
Steps
- Apply a small amount of shaving cream (foam or gel) or rub a bar of soap onto the mirror surface.
- Spread it evenly across the entire mirror.
- Buff thoroughly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth until the glass is completely clear and streak-free.
- Reapply every few days or whenever fogging returns.
Why It Works
Soap and shaving cream contain surfactants that lower the surface tension of water. Instead of forming discrete droplets that scatter light (fog), moisture spreads into an invisible, transparent sheet.
Tips
- Use plain white shaving cream rather than gel varieties with dyes, which can leave colored residue.
- A little goes a long way -- too much makes buffing difficult.
