What to Do

Spray cromolyn sodium (NasalCrom) 1 spray per nostril 3-4 times daily. Start 1-2 weeks before allergy season and use consistently throughout.

Why It Works

Cromolyn stabilizes mast cells, preventing them from releasing histamine and other inflammatory chemicals. It is a purely preventive medication — it will not help symptoms that have already started. It has virtually no side effects and is one of the safest allergy medications available.

• Must be used 3-4 times daily (less convenient than once-daily corticosteroid sprays)
