Use a bait monitoring system (Sentricon, Trelona)
4
What to Do
Have a certified pest control professional install a termite bait monitoring system around your property perimeter. Sentricon Always Active uses noviflumuron (an IGR that inhibits molting). Trelona ATBS uses novaluron. Stations are checked and maintained on a regular schedule.
Why It Works
Termites find the bait stations, feed on them, and transfer the active ingredient throughout the colony through normal food sharing. This eventually kills the queen and collapses the entire colony. Bait systems are environmentally safer than liquid barriers because they use far less chemical and specifically target termites.
Tips
- Slower acting than liquid barriers (months vs weeks) but eliminates entire colonies including the queen
- Only effective against subterranean termites — does not work on drywood termites
- Professional-only system — not available for DIY purchase
- Cost: $1,200-3,500 initial installation plus $300-500 annual monitoring
- Requires ongoing professional maintenance to remain effective
