Collect eggs daily

5

Gather goose eggs every morning during the laying season, ideally before 9 AM when most geese have finished laying. Place eggs in a clean container and move them to cool storage (around 13°C / 55°F) promptly.

Why It Works

Daily collection prevents eggs from cracking, freezing in early spring cold snaps, or accumulating dirt. It also discourages broodiness -- a goose is less likely to sit on an empty nest -- keeping her in laying mode longer.

Tips

  • Geese typically lay in the early morning hours, so check nests first thing
  • Wash dirty eggs with warm water (not cold) to avoid pushing bacteria through the shell pores
  • Mark each egg with the collection date using a pencil for freshness tracking
