Install Woven Wire Fencing
5
Install 4-foot to 5-foot high woven wire fencing (also called field fence or goat fence) around your miniature goat enclosure. Choose rolls with smaller openings — 4x4 inches or less at the bottom — to prevent kids from squeezing through and adults from catching their heads. Stretch the wire tightly between sturdy wooden or T-posts spaced 8 to 10 feet apart.
Why It Works
Woven wire creates a strong, continuous physical barrier that resists pushing, climbing, and rubbing. The tight mesh pattern at the lower section contains even the smallest kids, while the height deters jumping. When properly tensioned, the fence flexes under pressure without breaking, outlasting lighter alternatives.
Tips
- Use a wire stretcher during installation to eliminate sag that goats will exploit
- Secure the bottom edge flush to the ground or bury it 2-3 inches to prevent digging under
- Inspect the base monthly for erosion or gaps, especially after heavy rain
