Rub dish soap or shaving cream onto lenses as an anti-fog film
4
A thin surfactant layer on the lens surface prevents water vapor from beading into fog droplets. Instead, moisture spreads into an invisible, even film that does not scatter light. Dish soap and shaving cream both contain surfactants that achieve this effect.
Steps
- Apply a tiny drop of clear dish soap to each lens and rub it across the entire surface with your fingertip.
- Buff clear with a dry microfiber cloth until no streaks remain.
- Alternative: Spread a thin coat of shaving cream on both sides, then buff completely clear.
Tips
- Reapply every 2-3 days as the surfactant layer gradually wears off
- Avoid soaps with lotion or moisturizer additives -- they leave greasy streaks
- Use only a small amount; excess soap is harder to buff clear
