Mark, level, and hang with two hooks for a secure hold

5

Use a level, proper wall fasteners, and a painter's-tape marking trick to hang frames straight and secure on the first try.

Steps

  1. Choose your spot and use a stud finder for heavy frames. If no stud is available, use appropriate drywall anchors.
  2. Hold the frame in position, place a level on top, and pencil-mark the wall at the frame's center top edge.
  3. Measure from the frame top down to the taut hanging wire or D-rings on the back.
  4. Transfer that distance downward from your wall mark to find the fastener height.
  5. For two hooks, stick painter's tape across the frame back over both hanging points and mark their centers. Move the tape to the wall at the target height, level it, and drill or nail at the marks.
  6. Install picture-hanging hooks, nails, or anchors with screws at the marked spots.
  7. Hang the frame and do a final level check.

Tips

  • Two hooks resist tilting far better than a single center hook.
  • For drywall without a stud, toggle bolts hold more weight than plastic anchors.
  • Pencil marks erase easily with a clean eraser after hanging.
