Pre-soak in oxygen bleach for stubborn dinginess

5

Dissolve 1-2 scoops of oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate) in a basin of hot water (50-60°C) and soak dingy or yellowed whites for 1-6 hours, or overnight for stubborn cases. Then wash as usual.

Why It Works

Oxygen bleach releases hydrogen peroxide in water, which oxidizes the organic compounds causing discoloration — body oils, sweat residue, and mineral deposits. Unlike chlorine bleach, it is color-safe and does not weaken cellulose fibers, making it safe for regular use on cotton and linen.

Tips

  • Hot water is essential — sodium percarbonate activates poorly below 40°C
  • OxiClean, OxoBrite, and store-brand "oxy" powders all contain sodium percarbonate
  • For maintenance, add oxygen bleach to every white load rather than waiting until items look dingy
