Air dry delicates flat or on padded hangers
5
After gently pressing out excess water, lay knits and stretchy delicates flat on a clean towel to dry. Hang structured items like blouses on padded hangers. Never put delicates in a machine dryer.
Why It Works
Machine dryer heat can shrink silk, felt wool, and melt synthetic lace. Tumbling action stretches and distorts delicate fabrics. Flat drying prevents gravity from pulling wet knits out of shape, while padded hangers prevent shoulder dimples on structured garments.
Tips
- Roll the item in a dry towel first to absorb excess moisture before laying flat
- Keep flat-drying items away from direct sunlight, which fades silk
- Flip items halfway through drying for even air circulation
- A mesh drying rack speeds up air drying while keeping items flat
