Ensure air circulation with a small fan
4
A gentle breeze from a small oscillating fan pointed near (not directly at) your trays dramatically reduces mold and fungal issues while strengthening stems. Good airflow is the single most effective mold prevention strategy.
Why It Works
Stagnant, humid air around densely planted microgreens creates ideal conditions for mold and damping-off disease. Moving air evaporates excess surface moisture from leaves and medium, keeping the canopy dry. It also simulates outdoor conditions, causing stems to thicken and strengthen.
Tips
- Run the fan on low — you want a gentle breeze, not a windstorm
- Point the fan near the trays, not blasting directly onto seedlings
- Start airflow after removing the blackout cover
- A USB desk fan is sufficient for 1-4 trays
- If you see any white fuzz forming, increase airflow immediately
