Use bottom watering for stronger roots
5
Fill the bottom tray (no holes) with about 1 cm of water and let the growing tray wick moisture up through the drainage holes. Bottom watering encourages roots to grow downward, produces sturdier stems, and keeps the leaf surface dry — reducing mold risk.
How to Do It
- Lift the growing tray and pour water into the solid tray beneath it
- Set the growing tray back down and let it absorb for 10-15 minutes
- Drain any standing water that remains after 15 minutes
- Repeat once or twice daily depending on how fast the medium dries
Tips
- Check moisture by lifting the tray — a light tray needs water
- Mist from the top only during the first 2-3 days before roots establish
- Overwatering is the #1 killer of microgreens — soggy medium breeds mold
