Employ guardian animals

House a livestock guardian dog (Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd, or Maremma) or a guardian donkey with the flock full-time. Introduce the animal to the geese gradually over 2–4 weeks under supervision before leaving them together unsupervised.

Why It Works

Guardian animals patrol, scent-mark territory, and physically confront predators. A single livestock guardian dog can protect a flock across 5–10 acres. Donkeys are instinctively aggressive toward canids like coyotes and foxes.

Tips

• Choose a breed with proven guardian instincts, not a herding breed
• Provide the guardian its own shelter, food, and veterinary care
• Combine with secure fencing so the guardian stays within the protected zone
