Confine geese at night
5
Lock all geese inside a predator-proof shelter every evening before dusk and release them after full daylight. The structure needs solid walls, a roof, and a door with a raccoon-proof latch (barrel bolt or carabiner, not a simple hook).
Why It Works
The majority of goose predation — from foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and owls — occurs between dusk and dawn. A shelter with no gaps larger than 1 inch eliminates access during the highest-risk hours.
Tips
- Use 1/2-inch hardware cloth over any ventilation openings
- Add a concrete or paver floor to prevent predators digging in from below
- Make lockup a daily routine at the same time so geese learn to return on cue
