Maximize grazing and forage

5

Give geese daily access to pesticide-free pasture where they can graze on grass, clover, dandelions, and weeds. For adult geese, fresh forage should constitute 70-80% of total diet during the growing season. Rotate grazing areas every 2-4 weeks to prevent parasite buildup and allow regrowth.

Why It Works

Geese are natural herbivores with digestive systems optimized for processing fibrous greens. A well-maintained pasture of roughly 400 sq ft per goose provides sufficient forage to significantly reduce commercial feed costs while keeping geese at a healthy weight.

Tips

  • Seed pastures with a mix of orchard grass, white clover, and perennial ryegrass for year-round coverage
  • Fence off areas treated with fertilizers or herbicides for at least 30 days before allowing access
  • Supplement with chopped lettuce, kale, or cabbage when pasture is dormant in winter
