Wipe hard surfaces with a damp disposable cloth to trap fine glass dust
3
After removing larger pieces, a damp cloth traps fine glass dust and micro-slivers on smooth, hard surfaces like tile, countertops, and linoleum. Always wear thick gloves and sturdy shoes.
Steps
- Remove large shards by hand: Pick up visible pieces and place them in a sturdy disposal container.
- Dampen thick paper towels or a disposable cloth: Use several layers for protection. Never use a reusable sponge or cloth you plan to keep.
- Wipe the surface gently: The moisture causes tiny slivers to cling to the cloth instead of scattering.
- Fold inward frequently: Expose a clean surface with each pass and trap collected glass inside the folds.
- Dispose carefully: Place used towels in the container with the other glass fragments.
- Sweep and vacuum as a final pass: Catch anything the damp cloth missed.
Tips
- This method is best suited for smooth, hard surfaces; it is ineffective on carpet or rough stone
- Use cool water only -- warm water can cause micro-fragments to stick to the surface rather than the cloth
- Disposable microfiber cloths provide the best pickup due to their fine fiber structure
